festival closing party
DUBplace – Selector Night
Spojka club, Presernova 4, Bratislava

23 apr 2005 10pm

DJ Sandpaper (sk), DJ Junior (sk), DJ Priapus (cz), DJ ESP (cz), Kode9 (Hyperdub, uk)

If you tune into today's dance music and watch its evolution, you probably won't miss the cross-breeding of music genres. Many of them catch the dub echoes of the past - whether it's techno dub from german label Basic Channel, echoes and effects in the crackling records of Pole, or the dub hodge-podge from net-label Thinnerism, it's always there. All that accompanied by the chaos of names ascribed to emerging genres. The closing party of Multiplace festival will offer the sound dubbed dubstep by UK journalists - a compelling snapshot of multicultural London where Jamaican influences mix with samples from African, Indian and Chinese music. Just as drum'n'bass this hybrid of the most aggressive analog of 2step, grime and dub owes much to the structure of pirate radios from which English DJ and producer kode9 (Steve Goodman) springs. His set will be the highlight of the Multiplace party, along with more party-like dubstep from the Prague Djs E.S.P and Priapus and eclectical selection by Slovak DJ Sandpaper. The plates from Goodman's Hyperdub label have been described as “death disco for deviant dub fiends,” and “dystopian dub for William Gibson’s cyber generation.” Don’t get scared by the journalistic hype and the come to Spojka to hear the sometimes fast sometimes subliminaly slow dark atmosphere - as Daddy Gee, Goodman’s MC, likes to say - “The times, man… it’s the times.”
The party is organized in co-operation with British Council and the Selector programme.
