exhibition: Eléonore de Montesquiou (fr)

Eléonore de Montesquiou (1970) is a French artist living in Berlin and Tallin. At the centre of her oeuvre is the human being in simple, everyday situations. As a part of Multiplace festival she presents her six shorter videos. In the video En attendant C. /Waiting for C. she used everyday theme of waiting for something or somebody. In her next video I Practice she let people to talk her about their relationship to different objects which belong to them. About relationship between people and their home is next video called Celibataire. Very specific sign of her videos is, that they are mostly filmed in quite unknown countries for us, so everyday situations gain another dimension. For example bath of muslim women on the beach in northern Iran in videos Nur and Elaheh, where women can bath only fully dressed and all touch are prohibited on public. Or little boys watching very popular telenovelas in small brazil village Atins in video called Televisăo.

Many of her videos have the character of a documentary film in which real people tell their authentic stories and experiences. As a part of section Single Screen, which belongs to Multiplace infocentre (open within whole duration of festival in spaces of A4 on Namestie SNP 12 from 12.00 till 20.00), will be presented two of her longer document movies. In video Swing, ma demeure-La putain et la maman- are different women telling to us about how they perceived their own pregnancy and how it changed perceiving of themselves. Video Par Ex. Ebenthal occurs in Ebenthal on the suburb of Klagenfurt and we can see there local farmers, telling about their relationship to their country and their little farms.
For Eléonore de Montesquiou is the sound component of her videos very important. For this reason, she invites to cooperate professional musicians, who compose music especially for her videos. It increases the power of the story and impression of complexity of her works.
